One of Reykjavik's oldest hotels, Hotel Borg at the heart of the city centre has now received a bit of a facelift: a new adjacent building with 43 rooms in the original art deco style as well as a spa and fitness centre.

Reception rooms, kitchens and restaurants have also been refurbished. Hótel Borg.,which just celebrated its 85th birthday recently received the World Travel Awards for Iceland's best hotel.

Hótel Borg was constructed in 1930 by entrepreneur Jóhann Jósefsson and was refurbished in 2006-2008. The new refurbishment is grace of THG Architects and Aðalsteinn Karlsson who have paid attention to keeping up with the original style of the premises.

The famous Gyllti salurinn, or golden ballroom has also received a facelift and features new floors, new gold wallpaper, and art deco lights. In the new Karolinustofa is a swanky bar which leads to two reception halls which are perfect for meetings and conferences.
