British low-cost airline easyJet is abandoning it plans to operate year-round flights from Iceland to Basel and Geneva.

easyJet has been operating two flights a week to both Basel and Geneva since October 2014. Since then, 4,745 Swiss nationals have visited Iceland, as compared to 1,500-1,600 during the two previous winters. The Swiss are statistically by the far the biggest spenders among the various nationalities travelling to Iceland.

The intention was to operate these routes all year round but easyJet has now decided to drop most winter routes. The Basel route will not operate from the end of November through to February, while the Geneva route will be stopped in October and then only operate during the summer months.

All passengers having booked seats on the cancelled flights have been offered a full refund.
