Yet another new restaurant for Hverfisgata, the new hip street of Reykjavik

Matbar is a new restaurant which opened last night in Hverfisgata in the centre of Reykjavik. Hverfisgata has enjoyed a new lease of life in this last year.

The main owner of Matbar is entrepreneur Guðjón Haukksson. "We're aiming to open early each day and to stay open late with an emphasis on simple, fun dishes influenced by Italy and Scandinavia."  Matbar also offers aperitivo and tapas.

"Instead of happy hour we decided to go for the Italian aperitivo tradition where people can have a drink and some small dishes after work."  With the regards to the design, he expains that they were aiming for a sophisticated and elegant, timeless look using Icelandic material."
