Celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Iceland
Calling all Irish and friends of Ireland!
While St Patrick’s Day celebrations are not as much of a tradition in Iceland as in many other countries, there is still plenty of opportunity to indulge in a few too many Guinnesses and renditions of Danny Boy if you happen to be here on this special day.
Here are a few possiblities in Reykjavik:
The Dubliner, Hafnarstræti 1-3 , 101 Reykjavik
The Erasmus Student Network is organising a St. Patrick's get-together in one of Reykjavik’s oldest Irish pubs, The Dubliner, today.
Happy Hour today is in fact ten hours (midday-10pm) with beer at ISK 700. There will be a live band later in the evening.
The Drunk Rabbit, Austurstræti 3, 101 Reykjavik
New kid on the block on the Reykjavik Irish pub scene is the newly-opened Drunk Rabbit. Tonight they are offering live music, Guinness at ISK 700 and an offer of eight special Jameson cocktails.
The Drunk Rabbit’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations are set to continue all weekend.
Den dankse kro, Ingólfsstræti 3, 101 Reykjavik
Reykjavik ’s famous Danish Bar is also getting in on the Irish action today, with Guinness at just ISK 450 from 7pm-1am. Live music from 10pm and Happy Hour as usual 4-7pm.
See details of their event here .
Further afield, you can also enjoy a St Patrick ’s Day evening from 7pm at Stracta Hotel , in Hella, South Iceland – with whiskey presentations, Guinness pies and live entertainment.
If you ’re in the West Fjords, you should make the trip to the town of Patreksfjörður (named after St Patrick), where a special music concert will be taking place in the Patreksfjörður Community Centre at 8pm (see event here , link in Icelandic).
