Messa di Gloria and Requiem by Puccini

On April 30th the Langholt church’s choir will be performing Messa di Gloria and Requiem by Giacomo Puccini. Soloists are Gissur Páll Gissurarson tenor and Oddur Arnþór Jónsson baritone. The conductor is the well renowned Garðar Cortes. Messa di Gloria is a beautiful and enchanting piece which is rarely performed in Iceland. Puccini finished composing Messa di Gloria when he was only 21 years old, in the year 1880. Puccini was inspired to write this piece as his fairwell to church music after seeing and hearing Verdi’s Aida in 1876 and later turning his attention to opera. Requiem was written late in the year 1904, as a request from the publisher Ricordi, to remember the four year anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s death. Requiem was first performed in 1905. This will be the first performance of this piece here in Iceland with Viola and Organ. The concert begins at 20:00 but the house opens at 19:00. Tickets are available at Ticket price is 3900,-
Ticket price for students and senior citizens is 2900,-
