Three sisters — Sigga, Beta and Elín — will represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, to be held in Turin, Italy, in May, Morgunblaðið reports. That became clear Saturday night, when the trio won the Söngvakeppni, or Song Contest, in Reykjavík. Their song, called “Með hækkandi sól” (which could be translated as, ‘As the days get longer’), was composed by Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir, a.k.a. Lay Low, who wrote the lyrics as well.

You can watch their performance below:

“We’re very grateful,” Elísabet Eyþórsdóttir, nicknamed Beta, tells Morgunblaðið . “This was such a nice surprise. We’ve enjoyed being among all these talented musicians and making new friends. We’re very grateful for having had the opportunity to be part of this.”

Growing up, the sisters were constantly surrounded by music. Their mother is singer Ellen Kristjánsdóttir, and their father is musician Eyþór Gunnarsson. Their brother, Eyþór Ingi, is very active in music as well. He played the drums during their performance.

The victory came as quite a surprise to the family, so they haven’t yet decided whether all of them will travel with the sisters to Turin in May.
