Iceland's Foreign Minister Lilja Alfreðsdóttir spoke to Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations in Korean upon meeting him at the UN headquarters in New York.

"When I lived in South-Korea, Ban-Ki moon was a rising star in the ranks of Korean officials. It was an honour meeting him at the UN headquarters and I couldn't resist speaking to him in Korean," Alfreðsdóttir wrote on her Facebook page, adding that Ban soon reverted back to English.

Alfreðsdóttir and Ban discussed matters ranging from the refugee crisis, equal rights and environmental issues at their meeting yesterday and Alfreðsdóttir informed him of Iceland's draft parliamentary resolution of the Paris agreement and the UN agreement on the rights of the disabled which were discussed at Parliament yesterday.

They also discussed matters concerning the Arctic and the environment. Ban-Ki moon will be coming to Iceland at the beginning of October to attend an Arctic round table in Reykjavik.
