Icelandic television and telecommunications company Síminn has condemned ‘blue movie’ channels as an “anachronism” and removed them from its channel line-up.

Communications Officer at Síminn Gunnhildur Arna Gunnarsdóttir told mbl.is that the company had undertaken a full-scale review of the material it wished to offer its customers. “We did not feel that these locked channels had any place at all in Síminn’s fun, family-friendly product offer,” she said.

The channel reportedly removed the channels at the beginning of this year and no complaints have been received.

Rival TV service provide Vodafone Iceland has reacted to the news by indicating that they removed sexually explicit material from their pay-per-view system years ago.
