The citizenship applications of two Albanian families controversially deported from Iceland will be processed by Christmas. Both families have a son with a long-term illness.

The applications to acquire Icelandic citizenship are currently with the General Affairs Committee of the Icelandic Parliament (‘Alþingi’).

Although time is short and information is still being gathered, the intention is still to have fully processed the applications by Christmas, says committee chair Unnur Brá Konráðsdóttir MP.

One of the ill boys in question, three-year-old Kevi, suffers from life-threatening cystic fibrosis, while the other, Arjan – just one year old – has a heart defect.
