New Hlemmur food hall to charge for toilet facilities

People using the toilets at Hlemmur food hall, formerly the main bus terminal in Reykjavik, will now have to pay 200 ISK to use the toilets. Unless of course, they purchase something at the market, which could be anything from a cup of coffee to a beer and a Vietnamese sandwich.

Director of Hlemmur Mathöll food hall, Ragnar Egilsson says that the plan was always to begin charging for toilet facilities. "To ensure that our customers can enjoy good toilet facilities we decided to restrict the toilets to our customers in this way. Everyone can use the toilets but it costs a little if you are not doing business with us."

Although toilet fees are very common internationally, they are fairly new to Iceland.
