“Could we have asked for a better ending of an important game in the preliminary rounds for the World Championship?” A winning goal at the last minute at Laugardalsvöllur [stadium] against Croatia?” Asks Morgunblaðið journalist Víðir Sigurðsson.

Iceland’s National Men’s Football Team managed a win against the Croatian National Team last night. Hörður Björgvin Mangússon scored the only goal in the last minute of the game.

The win was extremely important for the Icelandic team, which is now one step closer to securing participation in the World Championship. Iceland is now in the first place in its group in the preliminary round along with Croatia, both teams have 13 points.

What a moment!

“What a moment it was in Laugardalur [where the stadium is located] last night when Hörður Björgvin Magnússon scored against Croatia after a corner shot from Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson. 1:0 at the best possible moment in the game, when the Croatian team was probably content with leaving with one point, securing them the first place in the group. They didn’t get any time to respond, the game was over. The crowd at the stadium exploded in a frenzy of joy, yet again Iceland managed a win against a great football nation. ”
