Two tourists driving on a 4x4 with a caravan got caught in the storm raging in South Iceland earlier today, and were swept off the road. One of them is severely injured according to the South Iceland Police.

They couple were travelling in Öræfasveit, not far from Jökulsárlón lagoon. They were immediately transported to a hospital in Reykjavik by the Icelandic Coast Guard’s helicopter.

The storm raging in South Iceland today reached up to 40 m/s. It's now subsiding but The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration still warns travellers on mobile homes and caravans to wait a bit longer before heading off in South Iceland, as it’s still very windy.
