The Reykjavik Metropolitan Police has made a demand to judicial authorities demanding that one of the suspects held in the involvement of the death of Birna Brjánsdóttir remain in custody. The other one is still suspected of involvement but is being released form custody.

Both men are crewmembers of Greenlandic trawler the Polar Nanoq and Birna's blood was found in the Red Kia rental car which they rented.

"We believe that investigation has revealed that we do not need to demand further custody of the second suspect," says police officer Grímur Grímsson. The second suspect, still in custody, has not admitted to murdering Birna.

Birna Brjánsdóttir was born in 1996 and was only twenty years old when she died. Her funeral takes place on Friday in Reykjavik.
