Police officer Grímur Grímsson who heads the investigation of Birna Brjánsdóttir's death after being missing for 8 days, says that the two suspects are being interrogated later on today. Some media outlets in Iceland have published a photo of the two men.

An autopsy is being conducted to investigate the cause of death and a forensic doctor from Austria arrived in Iceland yesterday to aid the investigation. Grímsson says to mbl.is that it is not right to disclose what has appeared so far during that examination and he would not confirm the names of the two suspects either for the time being.

Rúv reported last night that one of the men went aboard the Polar Nanoq between 6 and 7 on the morning of Birna's disappearance. The other drove away from the trawler, in the red Kia Rio, alone.  Which means that the course of events is that both men leave the red car at Hafnarfjörður harbour. A while later one of them boards the trawler and the other drives off. He drives around the harbour area and then drives away. He doesn't return until several hours later.

Rúv has also reported that Birna's ID card was found onboard the Polar Nanoq.

The two suspects who are kept in isolation are still unaware that Birna's body has been found.

Birna's family and friends have received thousands of notes of condolences, among them are condelences from the President of Iceland and government ministers. Greenland's Foreign Minister Vittus Qujaukitsoq sent a letter to the Icelandic Foreign Ministry saying that the thoughts of the Greenlandic nation are with Iceland in this time of grief.

Birna disappeared on January 14th and was found 8 days later, dead, on a beach near Selvogsviti lighthouse in Reykjanes.

A candlelit walk has been organised in Reykjavik on Saturday in memory of Birna. Crowds are expected to walk from Laugavegur 31, the place where Birna was last seen, down to the Reykjavik City Lake to float candles there.  The march starts at 4 pm on Saturday.
