The Environment Agency of Iceland will be closing Kirkjufjara beach at Dyrhólaey due to strong ocean currents and rockfall. A German tourist perished there yesterday and was was found east of Dyrhólaey.

Kirkjufjara forms part of Reynisfjara beach.  The beach is infamous for its sneaker waves and strong currents and three tourists have been killed there in the past few years.

Kirkjufjara is currently chained off from the main walking path at Kirkjufjara but people can climb over the chain to get closer to the ocean. There is a sign there warning of the dangers. The Environment Agency is currently making a new sign where people are banned from going towards the ocean.
