Icelandic Christmas Bazaar in Virginia

Last Saturday saw a hugely successful Icelandic event in the United States – the Icelandic Association of Washington DC’s annual Christmas Bazaar, held in Virginia, US.

Around 1,000 people packed the house to sample Icelandic culinary treats such as flatbread, smoked lamb, cream pancakes and hot-dogs. Vendors from the area, elsewhere in the US and even Iceland sold handicrafts, woolen clothing, Icelandic candy, books, and all sorts of handicrafts.

“The bazaar was a great success,” said Erna Pomrenke, a native Icelander who serves on the Association’s Board and helped organise the event. “Everyone was happy, except maybe the people who arrived after the last hot-dog sold out! We’ll buy in even more for next year.”
