Unusually warm temperatures last night

Today's weather forecast.

Óvenjuhár hiti mældist í nótt á nokkrum stöðum fyrir norðan og norðaustan, m.a. á Vopnafirði þar sem hiti mældist 17,7 stig og Ólafsfirði þar sem hann var 17,3 stig. Ekki er þó hitabylgja hér á ferð heldur segir Helga Ívarsdóttir, veðurfræðingur á vakt á Veðurstofu Íslands, hitann ekki vera óvenjulegan í því veðri sem verið hefur.

Unusually high temperatures were recorded in several places in North and North East Iceland, including Vopnafjörður and Ólafsfjörður where the  temperatures was 17,7 degrees C and 17.3 degrees C. However, this is no heat wave but quite usual in light of the current weather conditions.

"The area of low pressure of the Greenland sea, the leftovers of hurricane Nicole is pumping warm air up to Iceland all the way from the southern oceans," says Helga Ívarsdóttir at the Iceland Met Office.

The temperature in Seyðifjörður in the East Fjords was 16 C this morning and Icelanders can be expecting mild weather for the next few days with temperatures betwen 7-14 degrees on Centigrade.

The wind has calmed down today but more wind can be expected tomorrow accompanied by rain. The weekend weather is looking better though although it will remain rather wet in the South and West.
