An Iceland fan following the national football team at the Euro 2016 championships was violently attacked in a Paris bar yesterday evening.

Arnar Þór Gíslason told Iceland’s RÚV evening news that the attacker was English, and puts the assault down to Iceland’s 2-1 defeat of England on Monday. The man broke a bottle in Arnar Þór’s face causing serious injury and ripping off part of his nose.

The attacker apparently asked Arnar Þór and his friend if they were Icelandic and glassed Arnar Þór as soon as the reply came ‘Yes’.

The injured Icelander was sent to hospital where his injuries were attended to. The English assailant was arrested and remains in custody.

Arnar Þór has no intention of giving up and is off to see the Iceland-France game on Sunday. “Luckily, I’ve still got my eyes, so I can watch the game,” he says perkily.
