Norwegians take Icelanders into their home to watch the game

A friendly cross-Nordic initiative has been launched in Norway to ensure that no Icelander finds themselves with nowhere to watch the much-awaited Euro 2016 clash against France this Sunday.

Norway – like much of the world – has adopted Iceland as their pet favourite during this year’s Euro 2016 football finals. Now the Norwegians are taking things one step further by opening up their homes to any Icelander who needs a place to watch the match.

Many people from Iceland may have booked summer holidays to Norway some time ago, perhaps not suspecting that Iceland would still be in the competition for the quarter-finals.

“No Icelander can miss this historic opportunity,” says Ola-Christian Amundsen, spokesperson for the Match Maker initiative. “Iceland is our team – we are all Icelandic now.”

The Match Maker website allows people to find a place to watch the game in Norway, or for locals to offer up their home. Iceland plays France on Sunday at 7pm (Icelandic time) at the Stade de France stadium near Paris.
