Positive start to Iceland’s Euro 2016 campaign

Iceland has secured a very welcome 1-1 draw against giants Portugal in their very first match in Euro 2016.

The Portuguese dominated both possession and shots on goal throughout the entire match, but a combination of disciplined and organised defence and some spectacular goals save kept the scoreline at 1-1.

Nani scored for Portugal in the 31st minute, followed by an equaliser by Iceland’s Birkir Bjarnason just after the start of the second half.

To put this result into perspective, Portugal is currently eighth in the FIFA rankings, while Iceland is 31st. Iceland’s next Group F match is against Hungary on Saturday.
