A new luxury hotel on Austurvöllur
Reykjavik’s famous Austurvöllur square is in for something of a facelift, with plans for a new set of buildings on the square’s western edge.
Buildings on Kirkjustræti – the road leading directly past the front of the Icelandic parliament – are to be abolished to make way for new a complex of buildings, including a 160-room luxury Icelandair hotel.
The new hotel is expected to open in two years’ time.
Icelandic design company THG Architects is responsible for the final design on the new buildings, an artist’s impression of which can be seen above.
