A police officer from the Narcotics Division of the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police has been arrested on suspicion of alleged “inappropriate dealings with criminals”.

According to Iceland’s Deputy Public Prosecutor Helgi Magnús Gunnarsson, the officer was remanded in custody between Christmas and New Year while alleged serious work-related offences are investigated.

The individual in question is being kept in isolated custody in the interests of the investigation.

Icelandic news website Fréttatíminn (link in Icelandic) revealed yesterday that the officer has been arrested for “inappropriate dealings with criminals”. Gunnarsson has not specifically confirmed this, but has neither categorically denied it.

The investigation continues.
