This year, Reykjavik counts down to the new year for the first time at Harpa concert hall, with its spectacular glass facade, designed by artist Ólafur Elíasson, displaying the countdown to midnight.

Iceland therefore finally joins the many world cities who count down to the New Year at a well-known landmark, such as New York's Time Square.

The countdown takes place 60 seconds before midnight, and the glass facade will display the numbers 2015 and then 2016.

Crowds are therefore expected to gather on the square outside Harpa just before midnight tomorrow night.
