Avalanche hits farmhouse in East Iceland
"It just hit the building full-force and entered three rooms," explains farmer Páll Pálsson to mbl.is. An avalanche hit his farmhouse last night. Rescue teams were dispatched to the site immediately.
Pálsson was alone in the house when the avalanche hit. He says that the force was great and that it hit with a loud bang. "Things happened really quickly and I didn't have time to think. I knew it was about to happen, I heard a gushing sound and then a loud bang."
The farmhouse suffered considerable damage, smashing three windows, a shed and a car. Rocks were also present in the avalanche which could be seen on Iceland Met Office metres.
Last night saw great flooding in East Iceland with several houses having to be evacuated.
