The Iða bookshop on Lækjargata in central Reykjavik will be closed down over the New Year to make way for a new Hard Rock franchise, it has been confirmed.

Stocks have already begun to be cleared, with discounts on all goods till the end of the year.

Iða had a six-year lease contract for the premises and has now been bought out of the contract by Hard Rock, who have been looking into opening in Iceland for some time.

“We are completely open to opening the bookshop elsewhere in the city,” says Iða manager Arndís B. Sigurgeirsdóttir. Staff at the bookshop will be employed in partner bookshops and no job losses are expected.

“It has been wonderful here and feelings are mixed. But such is life sometimes. This is a big change and you just have to be positive.”
