Mayor Dagur B.Eggertsson's proposal to divide the 101 postcode into two making the Vatnsmýri area into postcode 102 was accepted at a City Council meeting this morning.

The proposal stated that in light of further construction in 101 Reykjavik it was deemed timely to divide the postcode into two areas.

The Vatnsmýri area is the area south of Hringbraut, where you will find the University of Iceland to the west, the hill Öskjuhlíð to the east, Lake Tjörnin to the north and the sea to the south.

The City wants to develop the Vatnsmýri area further as an appealing alternative to 101 Reykjavik for both living and working purposes.  No decision has yet been reached on whether the domestic airport should be relocated or not, a topic of heavy debate in Iceland for years.
