Iceland Monitor is of course monitoring the first storm of the winter here in Iceland and will be publishing the latest updates throughout the day. Here are the first few photographs of the snowstorm this morning.

There's a whiteout in the capital and hundreds of school children didn't go to school this morning. Rescue teams in the capital have been on alert since 6.30 am due to the storm forecast.

Roads were cleared at 5 am but many roads are becoming impassable and police strongly advise against driving, especially on cars not equipped for snow.

Rescue teams in the Westman Islands have already had to help people stuck in the snow this morning.

All domestic flights are currently down. Travel services for the disabled are not operating except for those people who need to get back to their homes today.

Bus route no.6 is not operating to Grafarvogur because of snow and all routes 55 and 57 have been cancelled.

Police report that cars are getting stuck in the Reykjavik suburbs.

Rescue teams have been on alert since 6.30 am.
