The Icelandic Muslim Association (link in Icelandic) has issued the following statement condemning the terrorist attacks perpetrated on Friday night, in which almost 130 were killed.

The Icelandic Muslim Association, together with Muslims the world over, condemns the savage, unprovoked and bloody attack on innocent people in Paris on the evening of Friday 13 November. We send the relatives of the victims our condolences and wish those injured a speedy recovery.

This bloody attack made no distinction between the creed, colour or nationality of its victims. The attack highlights the need for us all to work together towards bringing peace to the world.

Peace comes with respecting, loving and caring for one’s neighbour.

People in the Middle East, Africa and Asia are suffering at the hands of war and terrorism. In the face of this, we must mobilise and stand as one in the fight for peace and dignity.

Human life is precious in Islam – and every life is equally precious. By showing love and respect, and by standing as one people, we can overcome this threat.

Condemnation is not enough – action is what is most important. We must work together, each and every one of us, to eliminate hatred in our world.

The values of the French Revolution were liberty, equality and fraternity. We must work to preserve these values – in actions, not just in words. We must not allow hatred, warmongering and terrorism to destroy them for us and our descendants.
