Icelandic skyr reigns supreme

Skyr – Iceland’s iconic dairy product – produced by MS Iceland Dairies (MS) has won an international award for best product of its type for the third year in a row.

Icelandic skyr beat off all competition at the Danish International FOOD Contest last week, winning top spot in the specific skyr category. Skyr produced by MS has taken top spot every year since the category was opened three years ago.

Part of the Contest is the Danish Dairy Exhibition, “one of the biggest trade events for the dairy and food products industry in Denmark […] bringing together all the products of the dairy industry as well as the processed food industry under the same roof.”

Between them, the products Skyr and KEA won twelve awards in the category. The overall winner was the Skyr with peaches and raspberries, scoring 14.2 points out of a possible 15.

“We are proud of the success achieved by Iceland and it is nice to see our skyr taking on products from other companies and winning,” says Ari Edwald, CEO of MS Iceland Dairies.

“Icelandic skyr is unique and this victory just goes to confirm that. Our success abroad shows that we have a quality product with a long history which should be available as far and wide as possible.”
