The Vegan association in Iceland has sent a declaration of condemnation for the treatment of pigs at Icelandic pig farms.

"Bad treatment of animals is known in all factory farming both in Iceland and abroad. There's a great movement in the world to ban factory farming of animals altogether," it states in the announcement.  The association says that they believe all animals have the right to a good life where they can attend to their natural needs in normal living conditions, conditions which are impossible for them in factory farms.

"The conditions that pigs live in here in Iceland are totally the opposite of any natural living conditions."  The association says that humans have no right to use animals and kill them as they've done for centuries. "The time of the animals has come."

Not one single major pig farm in Iceland complies fully with all current rules on welfare and conditions for pig farming, according to a report by the Iceland Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST).
