Quiz Up gets primetime show on NBC

Icelandic trivia app Quiz Up is getting its own primetime TV show on US TV channel NBC. NBC will be developing the show in collaboration with Icelandic computer games company Plain Vanilla.

Quiz Up became a huge success in 2013 and was downloaded over five million times in the space of only five weeks scoring Plain Vanilla more than $22 million in venture capital. NBC will be producing a series of ten eposodes, called QuizUp,  where participants in the NBC studios will compete against a television audience anywhere in the US who are playing the game in their smartphones. Winners of the the show will receive one million USD. 

"QuizUp is today's most popular digital quiz game with over 75 million users. The game has reached first place in the App Store in 128 countries. NBC has produced dozens of popular shows including Frasier, Friends, Seinfeld, The West Wing, Fear Factor, The Office, America's Got Talent, The Biggest Loser, Saturday Night Live, Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon and The Voice," states an announcement from NBC.

"The QuizUp TV show is a great next step for us," says Þorsteinn B.Friðriksson, director and founder of QuizUp in an announcement. "Over the past five months we've completely changed QuizUp to something closer to social media." He adds that the TV show will move the app into the living rooms of millions of people.
