Those wishing to immerse themselves in football fever this evening should wend their way to Ingólfstorg in central Reykjavik, where tonight’s Euro 2016 qualifier between Iceland and the Netherlands will be shown on Iceland’s largest big-screen television.

The event is being hosted by Iceland telephony company Nova and the famous square has been amusingly renamed Arena de Ingólfstorg for the occasion.

The match itself kicks off at 6:45pm, but festivities begin at 5:30pm with warm-up acts from DJs Margeir and Högni.

Iceland currently reigns supreme at the top of Group A of the qualifying rounds for Euro 2016, and just six points from the next four games should be enough to send the blues to the finals in France next year.

Iceland fans have travelled to Amsterdam in their thousands to support their home team and have wasted no time in painting the town blue, singing with gusto and filling the city’s famous Dam square with joy and laughter.
