Iceland sends 41 to Special Olympics

41 Icelandic athletes will be competing in the 2015 Special Olympics in Los Angeles, which got under way this weekend.

The event, for people with intellectual disabilities, is “the world’s largest sports and humanitarian event [...], uniting the world through sports in a celebration of the abilities and accomplishments of people with intellectual disabilities and forming a new global vision of acceptance”, according the Games website.

The Games will bring together 165 nations, with athletes competing in 26 disciplines. The Icelandic delegation will be going for gold in:

  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Bocce
  • Bowling
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Gymnastics - Artistic
  • Powerlifting
