A population increase of 870 in the second quarter of 2015 has pushed Iceland’s total population over the 330,000 mark.

At the end of June 2015, a record 330,610 people were resident in Iceland, 50.3% men and 49.7% women. Just over 25,000 residents are of non-Icelandic nationality and 64.2% percent of the total population lives in the Greater Reykjavik area.

The landmark number of 330,000 was exceeded in the period April-June this year. 1,050 children were born, while 540 people died, and net migration into the country was 350.

Some 70% of all Icelanders leaving the country in 2015 Q2 emigrated to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. Of the foreign nationals leaving, most emigrated to Poland (24.6%).

Poland was also the source of most new immigration into the country. During April-June 2015, 32.4% of the 1,050 new expatriates coming to Iceland were from Poland.
