Iceland could be about to experience something of a cold snap, says meteorologist Trausti Jónsson.

While recent conditions have been relatively mild, colder weather is on its way, brought in to Iceland by a forecast northerly wind.

“South-west Iceland should escape the worst of it,” says Jónsson, but forecasts cloudy, rainy conditions for north-east Iceland with temperatures well down into single figures.

Jónsson explains that colder conditions such as these in Iceland are quite normal when areas of unusually warm air dominate both Greenland and the European mainland, as is the case now.
