Trains on the cards for Reykjavik of the future

According to a new city planning strategy for Reykjavik which was signed at Höfði house today, a new train system will be put into use by 2040 with light railways and express trains.
Inhabitants of the capital are expected to increase by 70 thousand in this time period and the trains will serve to connect different areas. The new plan is for all of the greater Reykjavik regiion.
"The backbone of the new strategy is Borgarlína, a new and high quality public transport system which will interconnect the local communities and transport passengers in a safe and fast way through the capital area," says an inforamtion booklet on the strategy.
