Easter opening hours

Bars and clubs

Tonight, Thursday, bars and clubs are open until midnight. They reopen again at midnight on Friday and then they will stay open until 3 or 4 a.m. On Saturday, they are open until 3 or 4 a.m and on Sunday they open at midnight until 3 or 4 a.m. On Monday, bars and clubs are open until 1 a.m. 

Alcohol stores (ÁTVR)

Alcohol stores are closed today, Thursday, and tomorrow, Friday. They are open on Saturday and closed again on Sunday and Monday. If you miss those, you'll have to resort to buying the non-alcoholic Pilsner at the supermarket, or even better, try Páskaöl, a non-alcoholic malty drink traditionally served at Easter. 

Supermarkets 

Most supermarkets are open today, Thursday, on Saturday April 4th and on Monday. Most supermarkets are closed on Friday and on Easter Sunday with a couple of exceptions: Krónan in Nóatún in Reykjavík are open on Friday and Sunday as well as the Krónan store in Hvaleyrarbraut. The shop Þín verslun on Seljabraut is open between 12 and 21 on Friday. 

Swimming Pools

Ásgarðslaug, Laug­ar­dals­laug, Sund­laug Kópa­vogs and Vest­ur­bæj­ar­laug pools are open both Friday and on Easter Sunday but the rest are closed on those days. In many places outside the capital area, pools are open throughout the Easter weekend. 

Other activities

Art museums, galleries, theatres and cinemas are all open for the whole Easter weekend. There are also plenty of concerts to attend and then of course there's the music festival Aldrei fór ég Suður in Ísafjörður in the West Fjords. 

Icelandic Easter Eggs

We thoroughly reccommend trying an Icelandic Easter egg, available in all supermarkets. They come in a variety of sizes and contain candy as well as an Icelandic saying. Just make sure that you check out the above supermarket hours before venturing to buy one!
