Following the two deaths at Silfra crevasse at Þingvellir national park in Iceland, new safety regulations were enforced. There are now fewer divers at Silfra but instead, more snorkellers.

"Our experience of the new rules at Silfra are good although they're probably going to change slightly over time," says Einar Á. Sæmundssen, educational officer at Þingvellir National Park.

Inspectors check up on Silfra regularly now to make sure that the rules are being followed.  "We see that divers now are fewer but there are more snorkellers. Perhaps people who are not experienced divers are deciding to snorkel instead."
