There's a Northern Lights fever ranging in Iceland, even for locals who are pretty used them. The reason is that they're particularly vivid this week and can be seen clearly even above the lights of the capital.

The Iceland Met Office predicts great viewing conditions in South Iceland with just a slight veil of clouds. The Northern Lights should start make an appearance at around 9- 10 pm and as we reported earlier, the city lights in Reykjavik will be turned off between 10 and 11 pm especially for tonight for better viewing.

Police would like to stress that people need to take great care when gazing up into the sky, and not to do so in the middle of a street or to park a car at the side of a road in the darkness.
