New Northern Lights research centre to open
A research centre at Kárhóll in Reykjadalur, North celand is nearing completion. The centre was built as a research centre for scientists to study the Northern Lights.
The research centre is financed by polar research centre of China and measures 760 square metres and is on three floors. All research activities are funded by the Chinese but many Icelandic scientists will be participating.
In an interview with today's edition of Morgunblaðið, Gunnlaugur Björnsson at the University of Iceland explains that the Sun's solar cycle is eleven years and that they intend to observe the cycles and Northern Lights activity during that time period.
The Northern Lights Belt, the zone where Northern lights appear the most often, passes directly over Iceland.
