The number of coaches registered on Icelandic roads has increased by 60% over the past fifteen years, according to figures from the Icelandic Transport Authority.

The coach sector in Iceland has been faring particularly well since the spike of tourists visiting Iceland which began in 2009.

So far this year, 340 new coaches have been registered in Iceland – bringing the total on Icelandic roads to 2,775. There were just 1,711 back in 2011. Seventy of these 340 new coaches were purchased by well-known tour operator Reykjavik Excursions.

According to Managing Director of Reykjavik Excursions Kristján Daníelsson, passenger loads have been steadily increasingly – resulting in revenue multiplying several times over, despite the coach fleet no more than doubling in number.
