Seals have been counted all around Iceland recently with final figures appearing at the end of the week.

Areas in North West Iceland and West Iceland have still yet to be counted depending on weather conditions.

Over the past decades, seal stocks have fallen around Iceland.

Sandra Granquist, specialist at the Iceland Marine Institue and project manager at the Icelandic Seal Centre says that the new figures will show whether the stocks are coming back up or not.

The seals are counted from the entire coastline. This is the eleventh time that such a count is made, the first was in 1980 when seals stocks were around 34.000.
