Iceland’s spectacular annual fireworks display at the iconic Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon will take place this Saturday evening.

This is the sixteenth annual display, and gets under way at 11pm on Saturday evening. Over 1,000 people have been attending in recent years.

Preparations will begin on Saturday with organisers sailing out to icebergs and placing 150 ‘peace candles’ on the icebergs. In the evening, the candles will be list and the fireworks let off. The show lasts around forty minutes.

Tickets for the show cost ISK 1,000 (approx. €7.50) with all proceeds going to the Hornafjörður Search and Rescue Service, one of the organisers of the show. Children up to the age of twelve get in free.
