No expense has been spared in kitting out Iceland’s first five-star hotel, due to open in just over a month’s time.

For some time, Iceland’s first five-star hotel was expected to be the one currently under construction at the famous Blue Lagoon resort . But this project has been beaten by a full year by the new Diamond Suites hotel in the South-West town of Keflavík.

The Diamond Suites is in fact on the top-floor of the four-star Hótel Keflavík. It is scheduled to open on 17 May this year – the 30 th birthday of the existing hotel.

Dubbed a ‘luxury boutique hotel’, the Diamond Suites features design and fittings not seen before in Icelandic hotels, says manager Steinþór Jónsson.

Rooms ranges from 30 to 280 m 2 in size and are individually designed. Furniture has been specially imported – one room has a white-leather bed studded with Swarovksi crystals!

Guests can also enjoy Europe’s largest hotel gym, and enjoy cuisine by Master Chef Iceland contestant Jenný Rúnarsdóttir.

The hotel is just minutes away from Iceland’s Keflavík Airport.
