Those Icelanders who joyously proclaimed that ‘spring’ had arrived last week presumably slinked back into work this morning after the Easter holidays with their tail between their legs – after parts of the country woke up to freezing temperatures and a liberal sprinkling of snow.

According to current weather forecasts, the country will not be fully clear of midday sub-zero temperatures until Thursday.

Very few places in Iceland today will get past 0°C and snow showers are likely in most parts of the country, particularly the south and south-west.

Temperatures will rise later in the week, but the warmer air may be accompanied by stronger winds and overcast conditions.
