Lights out, Northern Lights on!
Residents of the eastern town on Fáskrúðsfjörður suffered a power cut lasting about half an hour around 9:30 pm yesterday evening.
While work was carried out to restore power, locals were treated to the spectacular sight of a pitch-black town illuminated solely by the lights of nearby ships and – you guessed it – a stunning Northern Lights display over the mountains.
The scene was “fantastic”, according to mbl.is journalist Albert Kemp. Above and below are some of our favourite Northern Lights photos from around Iceland.
