The strange case where a Reykjavik hotel advised guests against drinking tap water, offering their own brand of bottled water for sale is now being investigated by the Consumer Agency in Iceland.

The agency believes that the hotel, called Hótel Adam, may be conducting misleading business practices.

Tap water in Reykjavik comes from a well called Gvendarbrunnur near Reykjavik and is among the cleanest in the world.

Health Authorities have to give a licence for any bottled water to be sold. The Hotel Adam bottled water is not labelled in any way to identify its source. Owner of Hotel Adam has still not been reachable despite many attempts.
