Parking fees for visitors could be on their way at such popular Icelandic tourist spots as Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Sólheimajökull glacier.

A group of land owners and tourism operators in South Iceland recently met with municipal authorities to discuss tourist facilities and services in the popular region.

The meeting agreed that the option of parking fees (service fees) should be thoroughly looked into to fund necessary development in these areas.

“Major development is urgently needed across the entire area if we are to properly receive all our visitors – and this will cost a considerable amount,” reads the statement issued.

“Land owners can wait no longer for a solution to this issue, as tourist numbers are expected to continue to rise considerably over the coming years. Action must be taken now.”

Among the tourists sites covered by this resolution are Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Sólheimajökull, Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara.
