"This is the best natural pool that I've ever been to," says geologist Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson who tried out the new hot bathing pool at Holuhraun, the scene of Iceland’s most recent major volcanic eruption. Guðmundsson was with a group travelling to the site with the Icelandic Glacier Research Society last week.

The natural pool at Holuhraun is not easily accessible but has been a popular bathing spot this summer, and according to visitors the water is warm and gives a great sense of wellbeing.

"The pool won't remain warm for long as the lava is cooling down,  next summer it will be a lot colder and probably unsuitable for bathing," says Guðmundsson.
