The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association – LA Phil – has announced an exciting ‘Reykjavik Festival’ for its 2016-17 season, which will feature a series of performances by legendary Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós.

“The Reykjavik Festival is designed as an exploration of the eclectic Icelandic music scene, highlighting the creativity thriving in Reykjavik and covering a wide spectrum of music, from chamber, choral and symphonic to pop music,” reads the Sigur Rós website.

The three Sigur Rós concerts will be held on 13, 14 and 15 April and will feature “career-spanning sets including fan-favorites (with orchestral accompaniment) and – “if things go to plan” – new, unreleased music (without orchestra)”.

The orchestral accompaniment is of course provided by the LA Phil Orchestra, and the Festival is co-curated by Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason and LA Phil conductor laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen.
